Ralph Porrett is a guitarist, singer and songwriter. His music spans a wide range of genres, incorporating elements of jazz, blues and folk. Ralph’s improvisational flair and dedication to the guitar are evident in his music.
In 2020 and 2022 he was a BBC Young Jazz Musician finalist. His performances were broadcast on BBC Four from Cadogan Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He is the only guitarist to have ever reached the final.
He has entertained His Royal Highness the King at Westminster Abbey, the Prime Minister at Chequers Court, and has performed at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms. Ralph tours internationally with YolanDa Brown OBE, performs with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, collaborates with Tom Rosenthal, and has accompanied the largest choirs in the world with the Young Voices house band. He regularly plays at Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express and the Vortex.
Ralph is a Junior Fellow of the Guildhall School. He graduated with a 1st class degree in 2022 (jazz and classical guitar) and was awarded a Concert Recital Diploma for achieving an exceptional mark in his final recital. He toured with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra throughout 2022, celebrating the music of Amy Winehouse.
He is a mentor for CBSO’s Project Remix and Orchestras for All’s education programmes. Ralph leads masterclasses for Music Hubs and teaches guitar, composition and A Level/GCSE music privately. When he’s not writing, performing or teaching, Ralph enjoys open water swimming, running around London and eating rissóis.
